If you’re going to be bound to something it’s important to be connected to something truly meaningful, and not something that’s just meaningful to the ego. You feel your connections with the world to be important. You have a deep need to be bound and tied to something you feel has meaning. At worst you may confer that sense of importance on things which are negative, dysfunctional and which retard your spiritual progress. But if you tie yourself to those things which can eventually free you by fostering your growth, then you will have truly fulfilled your deepest needs.
